It Is Finished

"It is finished"
John 19:30
What is finished? What was Jesus saying to us in His final breath? What did He want us to know from this? We see this verse as Jesus stating the completion of the purpose for which he came, completeing His ministry. We see that He is stating that He has defeated sin by the spilling of His Blood. "It is finished" the rule that sin has over man, over the world.
How many times have you read this, heard this, seen it in a movie or video. Christs dieing moment played out over and over again. How often have you thought of how powerful these words are to your Christian faith? I see them, they are a foundation to my, your daily walk. They are a cornerstone of the Good News of the Gospel. They are the truth that will set you free.
"It is finished" is a statement of fact that sins rule over this world is done. Satan has lost his grip on the human race and there has now been payment for all mans sins. As believers, your faith must know this as fact. Your heart must be set on the fact that Jesus Christ has paid for all of the garbage of your past. Jesus has paid for your disobediance to the Word of God before you knew Him. Jesus has paid for the times you cheated people, lied and stole. Jesus paid for your abusivenes and your selfishness, the times when you failed.
Once you coame to Him, recognized His face, had the living God touch your heart, you accepted that payment. You accepted the Grace of God that allowed His son to die for your debt. Once you knew Jesus Christ, you also know that it is finished. Thats why I cried my guts out the day I was saved. That is why I still cry when I think of what He does for me everyday, everyday repaying for my sin.
The problem that I had so many times is that I move away from this cornerstone and into a Theological forest that begins to disort this truth. Satan wants us here, looking for answerrs to all of lifes questions. Returning to the puke of our past and examining it. Satan wants us to have remorse and guilt. He wants us to struggle with the truth of God and to place doubt into our relationship. Then He can work.
By not setting in our hearts that "It is finished" then we hold something between us and Jesus. We don't fully believe. We leave room for more pain. By not fully accepting the words of Jesus Christ, "It is finnished" then we can acurrately say that our faith can become stronger.
Don't revist your past in guilt or shame, revisit it as part of your testimony. Revisit it as a history of how Jesus defeated Satan in your life. Look at these things in a positive light. Look at them in a way that glorifies God. Let this truth set you free from the negativity and lies that Satan would have you believe about your past. Trust your Savior.
Don't move away from the Cross and the work that was done. Don't turn your head in disgust. Look at it. See His suffering for you. See the blood fall from his toes as you kneel at His feet. Watch as your tears mix with His in the dirt. He hung there for you, because of you, and to save you. Save you from your past and your future. The Cross is where it was finished. The Cross is where sin lost its grip on your life. The Cross.
If you hold to the finished work. If you accept fully in your heart that Jesus died for ypour past, it will not haunt you again. It will not continue to drag you into darkness, into the depths of the forest. You will be released from that burdon, Satan will remain where Christ put him, in the past. You will be set free. You will beeborn again. You will be made new in Christ Jesus.
Father, sent sent your one and only Son, to die, so that I may live. So that all who believe in this gift of grace will live. His death on the Cross was the final payment for the sins of those who believe. We no longer have to walk in any darkness, because "it is finished". Praise God. Praise my Lord Jesus Christ.
